Parc des princes
Located inside Paris proper, a stone’s throw from the tennis courts at Roland Garros, the Parc des Princes has been part of the French football scene since 1897, though it owes its current architecture to Roger Taillibert, who redesigned the stadium in 1972.
Until the Stade de France opened in 1998, the Parc des Princes was the place where the French national football and rugby teams played their big international matches. The high point of its history was the final of the 1984 UEFA European Nations Cup, which France won.
Renovated in 2013, this now-legendary venue will host some 47,000 spectators in optimal conditions during the Euro 2016. Besides group stage fixtures, the public at the ‘Parc’ will have the chance to watch a decisive knockout phase match.
Address: 24 Rue du Commandant Guilbaud, 75016 Paris
Since 1927, the Roland-Garros stadium has been a mecca for international clay court tennis. Situated on the edge of the Bois de Boulogne, the stadium stages one of the grand slam tennis tournaments: the French Open. Over two weeks, top international tennis stars play on the 24 famous clay courts, including the Philippe-Chatrier centre court and the Suzanne Lenglen court. Outside the period of this major sporting event, there is the tennis museum.
