Azzedine Alaïa

Housed in an 18th-century mansion on a quiet street within Paris’s ‘Golden Triangle’, the new shop is both supremely elegant and artfully minimal, with furnishings by the likes of Marc Newson, Pierre Paulin and Charlotte Perriand. Downstairs, there are undulating red banquettes for trying on shoes, which provide a nice splash of colour. The two upstairs floors boast a uniform whiteness which highlights Alaïa’s exquisitely-crafted clothes, all in black, white and luscious saturated colour.

Cartier

If there is one jeweller that impeccably encapsulates Parisian style, it has to be Cartier.

The Paris-based fine jewellery company, founded in 1847, has just opened its ninth Paris boutique on the exclusive boulevard des Capucines.

Positioned close to two of the city’s major landmarks, the Opéra de Paris and the Madeleine, the 450-square-metre store was designed by architect Bruno Moinard, who frequently works with Cartier.

The two-storey boutique offers high jewellery, accessories, watches and bridal collections. Before you get too distracted by the delights inside, be sure to take time to admire the building’s impressive façade, which is decked with gilt bronze decorative railings, dramatic window displays and rare Italian portoro marble.

Lanvin

The couture house that began in the 1920s with Jeanne Lanvin has been reinvented by the talented and indefatigable Albert Elbaz. In October 2007 he unveiled this, the revamped showroom that set new aesthetic standards for luxury fashion retailing. Lanvin has an exhibition room devoted to her in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, and this apartment-boutique comes close, incorporating original furniture from the Lanvin archive that has been restored. All this would be nothing, of course, if the clothes themselves were not exquisite.
